You can export an overlay design directory as OpenWGA plugin, for example to make a theme that you created in the overlay publicly available.

An exported and installed overlay plugin will be usable just like any design provider plugin. It is shown in the design configuration of OpenWGA web application and can be chosen for design. In that case OpenWGA will automatically use both, the base plugin and the "overlay plugin", in combination as design provider.

To ensure that this is possible however you should specify your base plugin as plugin dependency in the plugin configuration. That way you prevent that anyone will be able to install your overlay plugin without also having the neccessary base plugin installed.
